The Hobbit
Bilbo Baggins, a comfortably wealthy hobbit of the Shire, is convinced by Gandalf the wizard to accompany a party of Dwarves on a journey to recover a stolen treasure from the dragon Smaug.

The Fellowship of the Ring
Frodo Baggins inherits a golden ring from his cousin Bilbo only to find that it is a magical treasure sought by the Dark Lord Sauron. With the aid of his closest friends and some unlikely allies, Frodo attempts to take the Ring to the Cracks of Doom - the only place in Middle-Earth where it can be destroyed.

The Two Towers
The Fellowship of the Ring is broken and its pieces are scattered across Middle-Earth. Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas race across the plains of Rohan to rescue Merry and Pippin who have been captured by Orcs. Meanwhile, Frodo and Sam make their slow way towards Mordor, guided by the treacherous Gollum.

The Return of the King
The traitor Saruman has been dealt with, but now Gondor is under siege. Gandalf leads the defense of Minas Tirith as Rohan rushes towards the walled city. Meanwhile, Aragorn takes to the mysterious Paths of the Dead to an unknown end. But all minds are turned to Frodo and Sam as they enter the Dark Land on the last leg of their terrible quest to destroy the Ring.

The Silmarillion

Unfinished Tales
Wherein this book is a collection of unfinished tales which stops in the middle of its telling or simply were abandoned by Tolkien himself. UT contains stories from the First, Second and Third Age, mainly as a supplement to the information found in the other books of Middle-Earth.

The History of Middle-Earth
This deals with Tolkiens earliest visions of Middle-Earth; Kortirion, the Fall of Gondolin and similar.Christopher Tolkien has included foreword and prefaces to all the parts, which gives one an indept look at the authors creating-process.

The Adventures of Tom Bombadil
A volume of songs, rhymes and poems from The Red Book. They tell of Tom's encounters with Goldberry, with Old Man Willow, who tries to trap Tom inside his trunk, with the Badger-folk, and with the ghostly Barrow-wight, as well as with a princess, trolls, dwarves and legendary beasts, such as for example the Mewlips.
